A 48-year-old Swiss, US and British (Hong Kong) citizen has set a new world record for scuba diving in the most countries. Sarin Sinniger has taken scuba diving holidays to 115 different countries, logged more than 1,000 dives, and has even scuba dived with an elephant in India.

Sarin Sinniger has set a new world record for scuba diving in the most countries, according to the World record Academy. The 48-year-old Swiss, US, and British (Hong Kong) citizen currently lives in Angola but has taken scuba diving holidays to 115 countries all over the world.

While diving around the world, Sinniger has had some incredible experiences as she logged more than 1,000 dives including her most recent encounter in her 115th destination where she went scuba diving with an elephant in near the Havelock Island, in the Andaman Islands, India.

"I've been shot at by African border guards; dogged crocodiles, hippos and great white sharks; dived under the ice with Santa Claus, in volcano craters, in caves, trains and submarines" explained Sinniger. "But diving with a retired logging elephant was a unique experience."

The 63-year-old elephant was used to help the timber trade after being forced into the sea but these days, he only takes a dip in the ocean when he feels like it.

"The first day Rajan only wanted to be in the water for two minutes. He was not forced to stay longer. Since the dive operator who owns him is ethical and they don't want to turn him into a circus act, they limit the number of dives he does a year to just 12," commented Sinniger.

"I had to wait a week to dive with him again and the second time he was in the water for 24 minutes. It was a beautiful experience".

When she isn't jetting off to scuba diving destinations all over the globe, Sinniger practices law in South Africa.

"I travel a lot for business and decided that I would always try to combine a business trip with a visit to a new country to dive," Sinniger said.

Her next trip is scheduled for April, 2013 where she hopes to dive with sea loins in Peru.

Scuba diving holidays are becoming increasingly popular for travellers and popular destination include Australia's Great Barrier Reef; Red Sea Resorts such as Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada; Indian Ocean isles including the Maldives and the Seychelles; and the Caribbean. While scuba diving in the Caribbean, holidaymakers can enjoy crystal clear turquoise waters, and an array of marine species including manta rays, sea horses, dolphins, sharks, sea turtles, and thousands of colourful fish.
