Scuba diving holidays in El Gouna

The Red Sea's best kept secret! El Gouna – a quiet and small private resort right on the coast just a 25 minute drive from Hurghada International Airport. Easy to get to, and a real pleasure to arrive at!

After passing security and entering the resort, which is more of a luxury complex than a resort, you will see what we mean!
Championship golf courses, shops, restaurants and bars, and all the facilities you could wish for, including a full hospital (with decompression chamber of course!) , cinema, go-karting, paintball, riding stables, and shops selling everything you could need on a holiday.

Move on and you will cross cobblestone bridges into the hotel and marina areas – stunning harbours full of luxury yachts, with multinational restaurants and bars on the waters edge, and a handful of luxury hotels sitting on miles of beachfront.

Everywhere is connected, and separated, by inland waterways and lagoons – each hotel is effectively on its own island and surrounded by beaches. Water-taxis, resort buses and the local Tok-tok cabs will transport you to anywhere you want to go for just a few pence (Weekly tickets are about £5 per person, and the Tok-toks are about 50p per trip).

Restaurants are competitively priced, and for a luxury private resort, eating out is surprisingly cheap! £10 a head will get you a decent pizza or pasta dish in a marina cafe, and £30 per head will provide you with a quality 3 course meal with wine in a good restaurant.

El Gouna is also a Mecca for kite and wind surfing – good winds off the reef make this one of the top kite-surfing areas in Egypt and there are several International schools that will teach you if spectating isn't enough.

The diving – as El Gouna sits to the north of Hurghada, you get the best of both worlds – the quality dive sites at the Northern end of the Hurghada reach, and the easy reach of the stunning wrecks at Abu Nuhas – the Carnatic, Kimon M, Giannis D and the Chrisoula K are all waiting for you on a single day trip.

Close by there is also Gubal Island, where the famous Gubal barge, the Rosalie Moller and the Ulysses lie. The SS Thistlegorm and the Dunraven are also within reach for a longer day trip, or on an overnight excursion.

And don't miss out on Shaab El Urg – also known as Dolphin House. A resident pod of bottlenose dolphins can be seen here, and up to 25 of them will amaze you if you are lucky enough to find them leaving or returning from this off-shore lagoon. Truly awesome!
