Scuba diving holidays in Bel Ombre

Situated amongst beautiful sugar cane plantations, lush green mountains and sparkling turquoise lagoons on the untouched south coast of Mauritius, the paradise Bel Ombre resort is an excellent base for scuba diving.

The warm waters around Bel Ombre are shallow and more suitable for snorkelling, but further west along the coast, the deeper waters are renowned for hosting big game fish, making it popular for both fishing and scuba diving. The beautiful Tamarin Bay is famous for its pods of dolphins, which scuba divers and visitors can see in their natural habitat. These friendly, intelligent creatures shelter here in the calm bays, mainly between May and August, and are happy to perform tricks and acrobatics for spectators.

Off the south coast, Pass St. Jacques is well worth exploring. Surrounded by cliff faces, this beautiful drift dive starts at 15 metres before descending down a wall to 25 metres. Divers will get the chance to see a variety of pelagic game fish such as kingfish and tuna, as well as eagle rays, black tip sharks and many more colourful marine species.

Further along the coast towards the west of the island, divers can explore an excellent range of dive sites around Flic en Flac. Undersea caves, tunnels, archways, as well as shipwrecks and a rich diversity of marine life, are just some of the highlights. Two of the best dive sites include the impressive Cathedral and the snake-shaped Rempart Serpent reef, which are inhabited by an incredible diversity of sea life.

There are also several interesting shipwrecks around Flic en Flac, including the Kei Sei 113 and Tug11, both of which were sunk to form artificial reefs in the 1980s and are now teeming with fish and other marine life.
