Scuba diving enthusiasts will have the chance to experience a rare encounter with sharks as the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign seeks daredevils to take on a sponsored shark dive to raise money for the charity. The event will take place at the Blue Planet Aquarium in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire on Sunday 23rd March, 2014.

The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign is on the hunt for daredevil divers to take part in a special fundraising event at the Blue Planet Aquarium in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire next month.

The charity is seeking scuba diving enthusiasts to take on a sponsored shark dive at the aquarium on Sunday, 23rd March, 2014 to raise money for the charity.

The event is aimed at scuba diving beginners but anyone is welcome to take part and all scuba equipment will be provided. Participants are asked to raise a minimum of £300 sponsorship to take part in the unique diving event.

Blue Planet Aquarium is home to one of Europe's largest collections of sharks and the attraction offers shark diving experiences for qualified scuba divers. There are also shark encounters available for younger visitors aged between 8 and 15 where they can get up close to a variety of exotic sharks, while being supervised by a professional.

The aquarium is also a PADI dive centre and visitors can receive diving training and certification so they can go to enjoy aquatic adventures in scuba diving destination across the world.

Diving with sharks is becoming an increasingly popular activity for travellers and scuba diving fans and destinations such as the Maldives and the Bahamas in the Caribbean have managed to put the message across to their governments that these activities could bring a welcomed boost to the tourism industry.

Unfortunately, the future of the world's sharks is a cause for concern due to the increase in companies hunting sharks for their fins.

Shark fin soup is a delicacy for the middle classed residents of China, Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan and the dish is traditionally served at banquets.

World Wildlife Fund and the Nature Conservancy are working together to educate countries and protect the shark species.

As well as saving the marine species, the diving activities will also help boost tourism revenues in countries that offer experiences with sharks.

Popular destinations where visitors can dive with sharks in include Stuart's Cove in the Bahamas, the Maldives, Mexico, and The Marshall Islands in the Pacific Ocean.
