Santa Fe cove - Havana

Diving with Marlin Marina Hemingway for this one, the fast boats will take you out to the site in less than 15 minutes. As Marina Hemingway is an international port, you must take your passport with you, so don't forget!

The dive site is awesome – only 20 or so metres at maximum depth, with the top of the reef sitting at 8 metres (perfect for the safety stop at the end of your dive), you forget that you are in close proximity to the capital city within seconds.

A sandy bottom in the form of a large cove is the start of the dive, and you drop down to explore large overhangs in the wall face, home to large morays, lobster and the little critters in abundance.

Small pinnacles on the sea bed provide shelter for more eels, octopi and the nocturnal fish life, so these are well worth spending some time on.

Barracuda hunt in large numbers, and rays of considerable size and various type shelter in the sand between the rock structures.
Turtles again are not uncommon, and free swimming giant morays are also often seen.

Most impressive however are the schooling sergeant majors and schoolmasters – twiddle your thumbs in front of you, and you will be in a swarm of marine life that think they are going to get fed! Hundreds of them, and so close that they bump you, your mask and hands – a camera is a must if you want to capture such an experience!

With visibility that typically extends to 25 metres, warm waters teeming with marine life, and a picturesque safety stop, this site is simply stunning. Spending an hour here is just incredible.
