Marina Tarara again provide the trip to this dive site, and after a sort trip in the fast boat, you will be over the reef.
Gentle currents make this an excellent drift dive, and the vast majority of the reef sits at a maximum depth of 18 metres, until the end of the drift where the sea bed drops off to 30+ metres, by which time you will be doing your safety stop, looking down on coral gardens and giant morays in the deep clear water below you.
Dropping down over the reef edge to the sandy bottom, you will be amazed by the life in front of you. Clear warm waters where the visibility can exceed 30 metres are your environment, and it is packed with life taking advantage of the sunlight overhead.
Stone fish and scorpion fish, octopi, horned morays and multi-coloured lionfish sit on the reef wall, surrounded by hard and soft corals, sponges and the like, all playing host to numerous nudibranchs. Five flamingo tongues on one fan within 2 minutes of entry were spotted when we dived this one! Take your camera!
As the dive progresses, you come across a large anchor on the sea bed, abutting the wall, and this is an excellent photograph opportunity, snapping your buddy in close proximity to brightly coloured corals, and surrounded by the ever present sergeant majors and schoolmaster fish.
Barracuda in sizeable schools hang in the blue, and don't be surprised to see a turtle grazing on the sea grass, sizeable rays in the sand and even a shark patrolling in the distance.
Diver Magazine rate Havana as one of the top capital cities to dive in the world, and we agree – this, and many others, are stunning dive sites.
