International Diving Centre El Colony

The Colony Dive Centre – Cuba's very first international, purpose built diving resort. At the northern end of the Caribbean Coast of Cuba, situated on the fringes of Punta Frances National Marine Park, Colony is probably the most popular dive resort in Cuba with divers from all over the world.

Not just suitable for the experienced diver, Colony has a BSAC, SSI and ACUC International Dive School, so learning to dive is catered fro well – you could even further your qualifications too. The choice is yours.

The dive centre sits on its own Marina, and here you will find several large day boats that ferry you to and from the 60+ dive sites that the resort offers.

With this number of logged sites to chosse from,it is obvious that the variety of diving is huge. Shallow coral gardens, deep deep (deep!) walls, caves, tunnels and canyons – all in a no-fishing zone – are full of life. Deborah Andollo, a holder of several world free-diving records, uses this area for her training on a regular basis, so you can expect to see a drop off beyond 100 metres!

The odd nurse and reef shark (and even whale sharks and mantas in certain months) are not uncommon sightings, and in addition to the normal reef life, giant sting rays (4m+ wingspan), turtles, and even dolphins are often seen on dives here.

Excellent visibility (25m+) is common, and perfect for inspecting the wrecks in Punta Frances National Marine Park. From a huge trawler, some naval patrol boats and even an oil tanker, there are plenty of quality wrecks to experience.

On one dive site there are two wrecks together at a depth of 10metres, so a good hour can be spent exploring them and watching the numerous giant rays that inhabit the sands alongside.

Long sunny days on the boats, balanced by excellent diving, and all in the safe hands of the resident instructors and guides (and chefs on the boats) – what more could you ask for?
